RETRACTED ARTICLE: Artificial heat waves induce species-specific plastic responses on reproduction of two spider mite predators

Climate change models predict that the frequency, intensity and duration of heat waves will increase in next decades. Heat can have profound impact on reproduction biocontrol agents ranging from postponing oviposition to manipulating offspring quantity via egg number quality size. Such species-specific responses stress may also affect their success controlling target pest. Here, we evaluated predation reproductive performance two spider mite predators Phytoseiulus persimilis Neoseiulus womersleyi exposed simulated mild, moderate extreme wave conditions over three days. Irrespective conditions, all N. females survived, whereas 12% P. died. Both species responded plastic modifications resulting increased rates smaller sizes. Significantly more postponed during experimental phase than womersleyi. The deposited was not affected by conditions. On contrary, output a function temperature, i.e., higher eggs. These findings indicate is sensitive relation However, further investigations effects other fitness-related traits consequences at population level are needed find out whether an alternative or supplement as control agent under waves.
